Abnormal AI is building a mission-critical data gateway—the standardized data layer that every product across the company depends on. As a Senior Software Engineer and founding member of the Multi-Product Platform (MPP) team, you'll design and build the APIs and services that serve as a single source of truth for data access across all products.
You'll own the full technical stack: designing high-throughput, low-latency APIs; implementing tenant isolation, authentication, and fine-grained access control; establishing data ownership standards and validation logic; and ensuring the system never becomes a bottleneck. This is 0→1 platform work with company-wide leverage—you'll define the foundation that every product team builds on, and your architectural decisions will compound across the organization.
Key responsibilities include driving adoption of API-gated data sources to eliminate one-off integrations, making early architectural decisions and documenting them in technical design docs, establishing engineering practices (testing, code review, on-call, CI guardrails) that future hires inherit, and mentoring engineers as the team scales. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to align on adoption of the shared data layer, and communicate asynchronously with distributed team members.
You bring 7+ years of software engineering experience with strong fundamentals in system design and building resilient, scalable applications. You're proficient in production Python and Golang, experienced with SQL and NoSQL databases, and have deep knowledge of service health, monitoring, fault tolerance, and incident response. You care about code quality, testing, and performance; can make practical technical trade-offs; and have proven ability to own complex systems end-to-end and influence cross-team goals. Experience designing data access layers, APIs, or internal platforms for other engineering teams is a plus, as is familiarity with GenAI tools like ChatGPT and Cursor.
