Base is rebuilding America's power grid through distributed battery networks and software that transforms centralized, fragile infrastructure into a resilient, abundant system. We're seeking a senior or staff-level, product-minded engineer to lead development of the customer experience.
You will own the architecture and technical direction of interfaces connecting real-world energy systems with clear, simple digital experiences. Your work will help millions of households understand energy usage, manage outages, and track battery performance powering their homes.
In this role, you'll lead development of major product surfaces across web and mobile applications, set frontend architecture and technical strategy across the frontend organization, and partner closely with product and design to shape the roadmap. You'll own major product surfaces end-to-end from concept through production and iteration, translate complex energy systems into intuitive user experiences, and establish engineering standards that improve developer experience across the frontend stack.
You'll mentor engineers, raise the bar for product engineering across the team, and act as a technical lead on cross-team initiatives. You'll use analytics and experimentation to continuously improve the member experience.
Required: 7+ years building production software in product or full-stack roles; deep expertise in TypeScript and modern frameworks (React, Next.js); strong experience designing frontend architecture for complex applications; track record owning products from concept through launch; ability to work across the stack and collaborate with backend engineers on APIs and data models; strong product judgment; experience with product analytics and experimentation; technical depth in solving difficult problems; experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond your own team.
Base is a startup where priorities shift quickly. The role may expand based on business needs. The team owns the entire stack: firmware controlling batteries in thousands of homes, trading algorithms for real-time power markets, distributed commanding systems orchestrating the fleet, factory software for manufacturing, and the product experience connecting it all. Work is in-person in Austin.
