Halter is building hardware, software, and AI systems to help farmers and graziers run more productive and sustainable operations. The company's core product uses IoT collars and intelligent grazing management to eliminate traditional constraints like quad bikes, dogs, and fences—enabling farmers to manage large herds more efficiently. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform team, you'll own the infrastructure and developer experience that powers Halter's entire engineering organization. You'll work on systems handling billions of daily events from farms globally, ensuring reliability, security, and ease of use for backend, ML, and data teams. Key responsibilities include: - Shaping how Halter leverages AI tooling to accelerate development, evolving internal AI infrastructure from a team tool into an organization-wide force multiplier. - Building tooling, guardrails, and golden paths that enable other engineers to ship safely and quickly. - Contributing to cloud infrastructure architecture decisions as Halter scales globally, balancing velocity, cost, reliability, and operational simplicity. - Embedding security into the platform through IAM, network policy, secrets management, and supply chain guardrails. - Maintaining reliability of core compute and orchestration layers that farmers depend on daily. - Advancing observability and incident tooling, treating on-call as a signal for continuous improvement. - Automating infrastructure management through Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, and internal tooling. - Participating in cross-functional architecture discussions and mentoring other engineers. - Being part of an on-call rotation with a skilled team. You should have deep AWS experience at scale, strong container orchestration and cloud networking skills, and hands-on Terraform expertise. You've shipped meaningful platform or infrastructure work in production, ideally in high-growth settings. You understand developer experience deeply and have built internal platforms engineers actually use. You treat security as a first-class concern and have hands-on experience hardening cloud environments. You're excited about AI tooling's potential to change how engineering teams work.
