Alpaca is a US-headquartered global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure serving hundreds of financial institutions across 40 countries. The company provides institutional-grade APIs for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, and 24/5 trading, supporting over 10 million brokerage accounts. Backed by $400 million in funding from top-tier investors including Spark Capital, Tribe Capital, and Y Combinator, Alpaca operates a globally distributed team of 400+ members.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform Team, you will develop and maintain shared services that power Alpaca's infrastructure. Key responsibilities include maintaining and improving event streaming infrastructure, developing replacements for aging authentication and authorization services, creating event-driven solutions to replace batch processing, taking ownership of technical challenges, contributing to architectural decisions, collaborating with other teams, maintaining code quality and test coverage, participating in code reviews, troubleshooting incidents, and potentially participating in on-call rotations for time-sensitive projects.
Required qualifications: 5+ years writing code in strongly-typed languages with at least 1 year Go experience; deep Kubernetes knowledge including Helm chart authoring and security best practices; relational database experience (PostgreSQL preferred); prior startup experience understanding technical debt and rapid iteration; ability to own tasks end-to-end from requirements through deployment and monitoring; 3+ years working on systems at scale.
Nice-to-have skills include Kafka/Redpanda experience, knowledge of JWT, OpenID Connect, SAML, and authentication systems (Keycloak), and experience with IaC tools like Argo CD or Terraform, or cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform and GKE.
