Join Coinbase's Access & Authorization team within the Platform group as a Senior Software Engineer. You'll own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of foundational authentication and authorization systems that secure how customers access Coinbase's products and services.
Your responsibilities include designing and building secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase's web, mobile, API, and partner experiences. You'll lead technical designs for complex initiatives such as signed authorization tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware authentication, and mobile OAuth. The role requires balancing strong security with simple user experience while meeting regulatory requirements and engineering constraints.
You'll partner closely with product, security, fraud, and infrastructure teams to ensure customer conversion, account protection, and operational excellence. A key part of the role is simplifying integration patterns and building self-service tooling that enables other product teams to safely adopt access and authorization capabilities at scale.
Mentorship is also central to this position. You'll raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, pairing sessions, and on-call participation, helping grow the engineering team's capabilities.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of backend software engineering with strong Go proficiency and experience building reliable, high-throughput distributed services. You need demonstrated expertise in secure API design, authentication/authorization standards (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, PKCE), and operational excellence with metrics, logs, traces, and SLOs. Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and data stores like Redis or DynamoDB is essential. You should have a track record of delivering complex cross-functional projects from design through production rollout with clear communication across engineering, security, product, and infrastructure partners.
