NMI, a global leader in payment technologies, is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the Fee Navigator team within Account Management & Signup Tools. Fee Navigator is a platform that automates merchant statement analysis and proposal generation—ingesting processing statements in virtually any format, classifying fees, computing markup and potential savings, and producing signable proposals in seconds. This role replaces work that previously took analysts hours per statement and sits at the heart of how NMI's partners win and retain merchants.
You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle—from planning and design through implementation, code review, testing, and deployment. Working within a cross-functional team alongside Product and fellow engineers, you'll deliver high-quality, secure software powering the fee-analysis and proposal platform.
Key responsibilities include: designing, building, and enhancing features using PHP/Laravel and Vue; developing efficient database queries and optimizing MySQL performance; owning code quality end-to-end through developer-led testing (unit, integration, end-to-end); refactoring complex areas and decomposing high-complexity components into maintainable code; documenting critical business logic and architectural decisions; collaborating with Product Managers on requirements and technical solution design; participating in code reviews; working with SRE to ensure observability, resilience, and security; diagnosing and resolving incidents and performance bottlenecks; and contributing to continuous improvement of development processes and engineering practices.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; 5+ years developing complex applications; fluency in PHP and modern development practices; strong object-oriented programming and design patterns knowledge; relational database experience (MySQL schema design, query optimization); modern frontend development experience (JavaScript/TypeScript, Vue, npm, CSS/SCSS); comfort navigating large, established codebases with limited guidance; familiarity with secure coding principles; Git and CI/CD workflow experience; and full SDLC contribution experience.
