GoFundMe is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Payments organization on the Payouts team. You will help build and scale next-generation payments infrastructure capable of handling billions of dollars in transactions.
As a Senior Individual Contributor, you'll be responsible for the team's ledgering and money movement systems, getting funds to people who need them. The role focuses on bringing more core payments capabilities in-house—reducing reliance on external vendors and fintech partners for compliance and control—while designing and implementing end-to-end product lifecycles for payout solutions from ideation through launch and iteration.
Key responsibilities include refining and executing GoFundMe's multi-year payments strategy to grow giving through innovative use cases; designing and implementing end-to-end product lifecycles for payout solutions; collaborating with engineers, product management, designers, and external partners on next-generation payments infrastructure; owning critical technical decisions across ledgering, money movement, and disbursement; mentoring other engineers through code review and pair programming; and leading projects from conception to completion while balancing technical trade-offs and business needs.
You should be a seasoned engineer with deep expertise in payment systems and a track record of building and shipping impactful features. Required: 5+ years of relevant experience in areas such as checkout/payment methods, payouts, ledgering, reconciliation, interchange, or KYC/onboarding. You must have experience architecting services and systems using well-accepted design patterns, leading projects from conception to completion, and analyzing and preventing performance problems using tools like New Relic and Sumo Logic.
Preferred qualifications include experience with Spring Boot, Kotlin, AWS, Kafka, Kubernetes, GraphQL, relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and prior experience on ledgering, payouts, or money-movement teams at scale.
This is a hybrid position based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
