As a Senior Software Engineer focused on New Markets Japan, you will design, implement, and maintain mission-critical brokerage systems tailored for the Japanese market. This is a backend-focused role requiring deep expertise in scalable system architecture and hands-on technical leadership.
Key responsibilities include: designing highly scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems for Japan; developing and enhancing middle- and back-office systems using gRPC microservices, REST APIs, and third-party vendor integrations specific to Japan (JPX, JSCC, JASDEC, banks, identity verification vendors); working with core teams to enhance the framework for multi-language, multi-currency, and multi-market support with Japan-specific regulatory requirements; contributing to regional recruitment and cross-functional initiatives; mentoring teammates on engineering principles and practices; fostering Alpaca culture in the Japan region; and participating in operational reliability engineering during regional business hours to ensure 24x7 platform stability.
You will have autonomy to architect and implement solutions meeting strategic objectives while collaborating on goal-setting with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has a proven track record designing and building scalable applications, is comfortable challenging conventions and advocating for innovative solutions, and can bridge engineering work with Japan-specific regulatory, vendor, and partner requirements.
Critical requirement: JLPT N1 fluency in Japanese is mandatory for this role.
