Alpaca is a US-headquartered global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure, serving hundreds of financial institutions across 40+ countries with institutional-grade APIs. The company operates as a licensed financial services provider supporting broker-dealers, investment advisors, wealth managers, hedge funds, and crypto exchanges, managing over 10 million brokerage accounts.
As a Senior Software Engineer for New Markets, you will design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems powering Alpaca's brokerage platform. You'll take on regional leadership responsibilities including recruitment initiatives, cross-functional project support, mentoring engineering talent, and serving as the operational reliability lead and incident commander during regional business hours.
Key responsibilities include: designing highly scalable brokerage systems; developing and enhancing middle- and back-office systems using gRPC microservices and React-based UIs; collaborating with core teams to enhance the framework for multi-language, multi-currency, and multi-market support; working asynchronously with tech leads across global regions; troubleshooting incidents to maintain system integrity; navigating regulatory requirements for international growth; and potentially serving on-call for engineering projects.
You must have strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in Go or similar backend languages, expertise in robust system architecture, and the ability to act as incident commander. Strong communication skills for global collaboration, computer science fundamentals, proven software engineering architecture experience, and comfort working independently in a fully remote, distributed environment are essential. Experience with event-driven design is required.
Nice-to-haves include experience with AI tooling (Cursor, Claude, Codex), startup or fast-growing tech environments, emerging technologies, domain-driven design, global team collaboration, financial services industry background, and expertise in complex financial systems including double-entry accounting.
