As a Senior Software Engineer for New Markets, you will design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems powering Alpaca's brokerage platform, which serves over 10 million brokerage accounts trading billions in assets. You'll take on regional leadership responsibilities including recruitment initiatives, cross-functional project support, mentoring engineering talent on best practices, and fostering company culture. You'll also serve as the operational reliability lead and incident commander during regional business hours, ensuring 24x7 system stability.
Key responsibilities include designing highly scalable brokerage systems; developing and enhancing middle- and back-office systems using gRPC microservices and React-based UIs; collaborating with core teams to enhance the framework for multi-language, multi-currency, and multi-market support; working across global teams asynchronously; troubleshooting incidents and bugs; navigating regulatory requirements for international growth; and potentially being on-call for engineering projects.
You must have strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset; proficiency in Go or similar backend languages with robust system architecture expertise; excellent communication for global collaboration; ability to act as incident commander; strong computer science fundamentals and proven software architecture experience; ability to work independently in fully remote, distributed teams under pressure; strategic thinking to translate technical concepts into business value; and experience with event-driven design.
Nice-to-haves include experience with AI tooling (Cursor, Claude, Codex), startup or fast-growing tech company background, knowledge of emerging technologies, domain-driven design experience, and global team collaboration experience.
