As a Senior Software Engineer for New Markets, you will design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems that power Alpaca's platform. You'll take on regional leadership responsibilities including recruitment initiatives, cross-functional project leadership, and mentoring engineers on engineering principles and practices. You'll serve as the operational reliability and engineering lead during regional business hours, acting as incident commander to ensure 24/7 system stability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing highly scalable, mission-critical brokerage systems
- Developing and enhancing middle- and back-office systems using gRPC microservices, React-based UIs for internal administration and API developers, and third-party vendor integrations
- Collaborating with core teams to enhance the framework for multi-language, multi-currency, and multi-market support
- Working asynchronously with tech leads across global regions via Slack and occasional meetings
- Troubleshooting incidents and bugs to maintain system integrity and performance
- Supporting international growth by navigating regulatory requirements and building scalable solutions
- On-call support for engineering projects as needed
You are an experienced full-stack engineer with a proven track record designing and building scalable applications. You challenge conventions, advocate for innovative solutions, and work autonomously while collaborating across functions. Must-haves include proven fintech experience (online trading platforms, brokerage systems, or fintech companies), strong software engineering fundamentals, and the ability to thrive in a global, distributed environment.
