NMI is a global leader in payment technologies, enabling software and sales professionals to deliver payment innovations without building payment expertise in-house. The Money Movement - Innovation team, formed through NMI's acquisition of Dwolla, sits at the center of the company's bank-to-bank payments strategy, building and evolving the bank payment platform that partners rely on for open banking, push-to-card, account verification, and new payment rail integrations. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will design and develop applications using Scala, TypeScript, and C#, working with test-driven development (TDD) and containerized microservices on AWS (Docker, Lambda, ECS). You'll work AI-first, using tools like Claude Code daily to research approaches, generate code, and strengthen code review and testing practices. The role involves owning code quality and production issues end-to-end, translating business needs into technical solutions with stakeholders, and applying system design expertise across messaging (RabbitMQ), data at scale (SQL, S3), databases and caching (RDS, Redis, DynamoDB), and CI/CD tooling (Git, Jenkins, CloudFormation, Terraform). You'll participate in agile ceremonies and help improve how the team works. The Innovation team operates asynchronously with frequent communication, surfacing blockers early, and prioritizing psychological safety and continuous improvement to maintain a sustainable pace. Minimum qualifications include 4+ years developing applications with object-oriented or functional languages, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, strong grasp of programming languages/security/architecture, ability to take ownership without close oversight, experience with AI-first coding tools, and experience mentoring and participating in code reviews. Preferred qualifications include distributed systems design knowledge, Agile practices, TDD and CI experience, paired programming/mobbing, Scala/functional programming experience, and exposure to payments or reliable/secure systems.
