The Market Data team is responsible for architecting and scaling Alpaca's data systems across stocks, options, crypto, and foreign exchange markets. You will influence the overall architecture of market data systems, design highly scalable mission-critical services, and obsess over latency optimization. Key responsibilities include implementing backend services, leading architecture decisions where scalability and resilience matter, maintaining software quality and test coverage, participating in code reviews, troubleshooting incidents, and potentially participating in on-call rotations for time-sensitive engineering projects. You must have at least 4 years of experience building systems at scale, proficiency with compiled imperative languages (Go, C, C++, Rust), SQL/relational database skills, TCP/IP and UDP networking familiarity, and strong Linux/BSD and shell scripting abilities. Experience with Kubernetes (GKE), GCP, microservice architectures, and low-latency application development is essential. Nice-to-haves include market data experience, DevOps mindset, cloud networking (BGP, VPC peering), distributed key-value stores, CI/CD, observability/tracing, and capacity planning. A passion for financial markets is valued.
