Applied Intuition is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own and maintain HD maps infrastructure for autonomous vehicles. The company, valued at $15 billion and founded in 2017, powers physical AI across automotive, defense, trucking, construction, mining, and agriculture sectors. Eighteen of the top 20 global automakers and the US military trust Applied Intuition's solutions.
In this role, you will solve challenges at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems, continuous data pipelines, and spatial visualization. You'll manage the complete lifecycle of HD maps—from gathering requirements and supporting visualization/editing, to enabling large-scale simulations and publishing maps to AV fleets worldwide. Your work will span long-haul L4 commercial trucks, L2++ personal cars, heavy mining rigs, and tactical defense platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and operate distributed simulation workflows for large-scale testing of robotic control, planning, and perception systems
- Architect and build scalable HD mapping workflows integrated into autonomy stacks
- Design infrastructure and tools for HD map creation, ingestion, and lifecycle management
- Define and own the data format for Physical AI map storage, handling heterogeneous features and distributed map data
- Design a highly-scalable, high-performance real-time geometric query system for 3D spatial queries
- Support tooling to digitize road network geometry from lidar, satellite, aerial, and street-level imagery
- Validate map changes against rigorous specifications for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Troubleshoot map-related simulation and onroad failures by correlating simulation results with autonomy stack outputs
- Collaborate with engineers and customers on requirements, feature planning, and roadmaps
- Advise customers on effective use of simulation and mapping tools
Applied Intuition is an in-office company with the expectation that full-time employees work from their office 5 days per week, with flexibility for occasional remote work and schedule adjustments.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering field
- 2+ years of experience in HD mapping for autonomous vehicles, building software components or subsystems addressing real-world mapping and/or localization challenges
- 3+ years of programming and systems experience including: C++, Python, Go, JavaScript, SQL, Linux, and Git
- Strong understanding of scalable distributed systems, CI/CD workflows, version control, and cross-team collaboration using Jira and Git-based tooling
- Strong working understanding of lane-level geometry at CM precision, routing, and HD map structures used in autonomous driving
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, and/or Azure
- Experience with large-scale data processing frameworks
- Deep hands-on expertise in relevant algorithms, 3D geometry, or distributed systems
- Deep understanding of sensors for localization and state-of-the-art production systems
- Experience with point cloud data, 3D visualization, or lidar-based annotation tools
- Experience with browser-based map editors or web-based 3D tooling
- Familiarity with feedback loops between mapping, perception, localization, and planning teams
- Familiarity with log-based resimulation tooling and simulation-based map validation
- Robotics and simulation experience: ROS, Unreal Engine, MATLAB, Blender
- Autonomy domain expertise in robotic mapping systems, HD maps, map management pipelines, simulation-based testing, autonomous control, motion planning, perception systems, and querying global-scale HD maps
