Snowflake is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the ManagedDB team in Menlo Park, CA. This role focuses on architecting, scaling, and innovating critical database systems that power Snowflake's global infrastructure. The ManagedDB team manages a large number of databases running across every Snowflake region on multiple public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), sitting at the critical path of external and internal systems including Snowflake UI, Service Discovery, Deployment Automation, and others.
Key responsibilities include: architecting and scaling database products to meet internal needs; designing cloud-agnostic abstractions and software infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP; driving complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from inception to production; mentoring junior and mid-level engineers; establishing software engineering best practices; ensuring high availability and security of database infrastructure; participating in on-call rotations; leading incident investigations and blameless post-mortems; and collaborating with Security, Infrastructure, and SRE teams.
The ideal candidate has 7–12 years of professional experience designing, building, operating, and scaling large-scale backend distributed systems in high-growth production environments. Required skills include: strong understanding of databases (PostgreSQL, Redis) and large-scale distributed systems; advanced programming proficiency in systems languages (Go, Java, C++, Rust); extensive experience architecting infrastructure on major public clouds with deep knowledge of cloud networking constructs (VPC peering, PrivateLink, Transit Gateways); proficiency in Infrastructure as Code and automation tools (Terraform, Kubernetes, Ansible, CloudFormation); and proven technical leadership with ability to break down ambiguous problems into concrete roadmaps.
Education requirement: BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent professional experience). Work authorization: US Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident status required due to compliance requirements.
