Spendesk is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its KYC (Know Your Customer) squad, which focuses on building reliable, scalable, and user-friendly experiences for customer onboarding, verification, and compliance. This is a primarily backend-focused role (70% backend, 30% frontend) where you will take full ownership of functional and technical topics across the complete feature lifecycle—from discovery and specification through technical design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance.
You will work with a modern tech stack including TypeScript (Node.js and React), PostgreSQL, Redis, SQS, Kafka, Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, and Step Functions. The role emphasizes using AI-assisted development tools daily and sharing effective practices across the engineering team.
Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining reliable backend services for KYC and onboarding, contributing to React frontend development, owning complex technical initiatives from discovery through delivery, defining robust architectures using principles like hexagonal architecture, leading technical initiatives with strong ownership and autonomy, building maintainable and well-tested software, and collaborating across Product, Design, Engineering, Compliance, and Operations teams.
You should have at least 5 years of software development experience in a product-focused environment, with strong expertise in TypeScript and Node.js backend development. Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code is required. You'll need proven ability to design and deliver high-quality, scalable products, strong architectural knowledge, and the ability to lead initiatives with high autonomy. A product-oriented mindset, collaborative attitude, and strong customer focus are essential.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience in financial services, payments, fintech, or regulated industries; experience integrating with third-party APIs and webhooks; and knowledge of compliance, identity verification, fraud prevention, or customer onboarding domains.
