Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the k6 Core team, responsible for building and maintaining k6, an open-source performance testing tool written in Go. k6 is used by developers and QA engineers worldwide to test and understand systems under real load, and is part of the broader Grafana observability ecosystem.
In this role, you will work on features and improvements across the k6 codebase, from conception through implementation and delivery. Much of the work involves problems that are not fully specified upfront, requiring you to understand context, evaluate trade-offs, and choose sound technical approaches. You'll deliver production-quality code, maintain existing functionality, and help keep the system reliable and maintainable over time.
You will work with high independence while collaborating closely with other engineers on design, implementation, and code reviews. Some work may involve the k6 cloud offering, which runs distributed tests across data centers worldwide using Go services that require careful attention to performance, correctness, and failure modes.
The team is small, so your work will have direct and visible impact on the product and its users. You'll work alongside experienced engineers in an environment that values clarity, pragmatism, and sound engineering judgment. Grafana invests heavily in developer productivity, providing access to modern AI coding assistants (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google frontier models) with company-funded usage budgets to accelerate prototyping, testing, refactoring, and documentation.
The team operates asynchronously by default, with decisions captured in pull requests and design notes. Meetings focus on alignment rather than status updates. Code reviews emphasize correctness, long-term maintainability, and user impact. The team owns the product end-to-end, including architecture, releases, user-facing behavior, and the health of the open-source project. Releases follow a regular cadence of roughly every six weeks, with focus on small, safe, incremental changes between releases.
Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company with 1,600+ team members across 40+ countries, backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GIC, Coatue, and others. The company serves 7,000+ customers including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce.
