Forward Networks is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the Network team. The company has built the industry's first network digital twin—a mathematically precise model of production networks that provides IT teams with unmatched visibility, verification, and agility across cloud and vendor environments. Customers include Goldman Sachs, PayPal, S&P Global, IBM, and Dell.
In this role, you will contribute to a codebase that transforms network management and security. You'll help bring modern software development practices into the networking industry, working on network device models for different vendors and protocols, and building infrastructure for configuring, collecting, and testing network devices. You'll collaborate with peers who are experts in networking, distributed systems, big data, and search technologies.
Key responsibilities include contributing to code base and systems architecture, optimizing network device models across vendors, creating infrastructure for device configuration and testing, and helping shape the future of network reliability and AI-ready operations.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of software development experience, 3+ years working with Java, BS in Computer Science or related field, solid experience with large codebases, basic understanding of networking and TCP/IP, and strong communication skills. Nice-to-have skills include knowledge of switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and networking protocols like BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, VLAN, and VXLAN.
