Telnyx is building the future of global connectivity through a private, multi-cloud IP network and hyperlocal edge technology. The company is profitable and financially stable, operating at scale with a focus on modernizing telecommunications infrastructure.
The backend team is constructing a highly-available distributed data pipeline powering Telnyx's Voice, Messaging, and Wireless products. The platform processes thousands of messages per second across a lean team managing 30+ dockerized microservices deployed across multiple regions in the US and Europe.
In this role, you will work on 30+ microservices implemented in Java 11 and Scala that process, aggregate, and expose data from telecommunications and messaging engines. Key responsibilities include improving pipeline performance (currently 10k messages/sec with growth trajectory), architecting services for minimal latency across global locations (US, EU, Australia, South America), implementing fraud detection with machine learning using Kafka and Kafka Streams, deploying to multi-cloud Kubernetes environments to achieve 99.999% uptime, and pushing code to production multiple times daily.
Required qualifications: degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience; 4+ years with Java and its ecosystem; experience with at least one of Cassandra, ClickHouse, or OpenSearch; experience with AI tooling or strong willingness to learn.
Nice-to-have skills include Scala or functional programming language experience, Linux/Git/Docker in CI environments, and distributed systems expertise maintaining five-nines uptime.
