Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for enterprises like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. The Financial Products team is expanding Adyen's capabilities beyond payments into embedded financial services for platforms, marketplaces, SaaS businesses, and on-demand platforms.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will build and maintain Adyen's distributed, high-performance platform that powers global payments, onboarding, compliance, payouts, and value-added financial services. You'll contribute to architectural design decisions, ensure platform scalability, and help develop teammates through mentoring and coaching. The role emphasizes rapid iteration—you'll ship impactful code within weeks that affects millions of businesses and shoppers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining distributed, high-performance systems
- Contributing to architectural design and ensuring scalability
- Mentoring and coaching junior engineers and peers
- Identifying and improving platform robustness and reliability
- Collaborating across teams and time zones
- Working on financial data processes and finance infrastructure
- Reviewing code and fostering continuous growth
You bring 6+ years of software engineering experience with Java and object-oriented programming. You have a deep understanding of architectural software design, are proficient in database optimization (SQL/PostgreSQL), and enjoy mentoring developers. You're a clear communicator capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, with the ability to take ownership and lead projects.
Tech stack: Java 17, RESTful web services, SQL/PostgreSQL with MyBatis ORM, Tomcat, Gradle, CockroachDB, and Elasticsearch. Fluent English required for this international team.
