The company recently launched Handshake AI, a rapidly growing AI data business that partners with frontier AI labs to create evaluations and benchmarks, growing from $0 to ~$1B run rate in 2025.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the International Expansion team, you will own the full stack of impact across fellow-facing experiences and internal platform capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, platform infrastructure, and operations, functioning as an embedded engineering group partnering directly with Growth, Product, Operations, and ML teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and owning core experiences across the fellow platform (onboarding, homepage, project opportunities) and designing systems that power fellow allocation and automate operational workflows
- Embedding with operators to understand processes, pain points, and success metrics, then architecting internal tools and automations that improve throughput, accuracy, and visibility
- Leading projects end-to-end from discovery through implementation, rollout, and iteration
- Driving architectural improvements that reduce technical debt and establish scalable service layers
- Mentoring other engineers through technical leadership and strong engineering practices
- Balancing speed and quality through thoughtful engineering tradeoffs
Required qualifications:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of owning production systems end-to-end
- Experience leading technical projects involving multiple contributors
- Strong proactive communication and stakeholder management skills with high empathy and ability to translate ambiguous needs into technical solutions
- Excellent engineering judgment and systems thinking for designing scalable architectures
- Experience improving or modernizing existing systems
- Experience building internal tools, workflow systems, or automation for operations-heavy teams
- Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
Desirable experience includes marketplace/allocation/matching systems, AI workflows, agentic infrastructure, and service-oriented architectures.
