Relay is a digital banking platform designed to help self-made business owners manage their finances with clarity and control. The company is building banking products that serve millions of small businesses, replacing financial guesswork with real visibility and transforming cash flow management. As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Internal Tools, you will own the full development lifecycle of internal tooling features—from design and development through testing, deployment, and monitoring. Your primary mission is removing friction by replacing manual processes with scalable software systems, turning spreadsheets and one-off scripts into robust admin surfaces and workflows that enable internal teams to support a rapidly growing customer base. Key responsibilities include: - End-to-end ownership of internal tool features across the full development lifecycle, ensuring reliability and performance at scale - Managing production systems, optimizing infrastructure, and contributing to platform availability, scalability, and resilience - Conducting product discovery by working directly with internal users to understand workflows and prioritize based on real operational pain points - Proactively identifying areas for technical, process, and product improvement, influencing technical direction and long-term strategy - Mentoring junior engineers and fostering team growth - Driving enhancements to code quality, performance optimization, and development process streamlining You bring 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, with a track record of leading significant component or feature development with minimal oversight. You are energized by internal-facing work and see making teams more efficient as a meaningful engineering outcome. You excel at product discovery, asking critical questions about existing processes, and proposing better solutions. You thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments, are comfortable navigating ambiguity, and are a collaborative team player. The tech stack includes React, TypeScript, React Native (front-end); Node.js, TypeScript, Terraform, and AWS services (back-end); and tools like Cursor, Claude, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Jira, and Metabase. Bonus qualifications include startup or high-growth tech experience, prior work on internal tooling or back-office systems in fintech/banking, JavaScript/TypeScript proficiency, and AWS services knowledge.
