ABOUT THE ROLE
Mural is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Integrated Workflows team, which focuses on embedding Mural seamlessly into the business workflows and tools that customers already use daily. The team builds integrations and an integration platform that connects Mural to systems of record (Jira, Linear, Asana), communication tools (Microsoft Teams, Slack), and other essential business applications.
Your mission is to own significant parts of how Mural connects to the outside world. You'll design and build reliable, secure integrations that are genuinely used by customers, and transform one-off connector work into reusable platform capabilities that other teams at Mural can leverage. This role sits at the intersection of product and platform engineering, requiring you to work directly with third-party APIs and SDKs while maintaining clean abstractions and a stable public API for external developers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and evolve two-way sync with systems of record (Jira, Linear, Asana, etc.) so decisions made on the canvas become tracked work and stay synchronized
- Design, build, and maintain integrations across the Microsoft ecosystem (Teams, Outlook, Office), video conferencing platforms, and notification targets like Slack
- Build and evolve the integration platform: shared frameworks, services, and patterns for other Mural teams to ship connected experiences
- Own content pathways in and out of Mural, including import/image panels, third-party image APIs (Unsplash), copy/paste functionality, file uploads, iFrame embedding, PDF conversion, and exports
- Partner across teams on shared boundaries and maintain contracts including render for exports, notification engine, and company-level migration
- Maintain and support the public API for third-party developers with backwards-compatibility discipline
- Lead projects end-to-end from research and design through execution, release, and iteration
- Build flexible, maintainable solutions while owning quality, performance, reliability, and security of system boundaries
- Design and implement automated testing and documentation strategies, including failure modes from upstream API misbehavior
- Elevate team skills through technical design participation, code review, and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to improving team processes and best practices
- Incorporate AI tools into fundamental workflows
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years building and shipping large-scale production software as part of an agile engineering team
- Fluency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript with hands-on experience in React, Node.js, or other modern frameworks
- Hands-on experience integrating with third-party APIs and platforms: OAuth and token lifecycle management, webhooks, rate limiting and backoff, pagination, versioning, and graceful degradation
- Strong track record of designing and delivering scalable, high-performance systems
- Proven experience planning technical projects and delivering new systems and features iteratively with focus on customer value
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to lead technical discussions and navigate trade-offs
- Outcome-oriented and highly-experimental interest in AI-driven development practices
- Experience working in high-growth, fast-paced environments or startups (preferred)
- Experience building against Microsoft Teams or Office add-in SDKs, or shipping through partner marketplaces (preferred)
- Experience designing and maintaining a public developer API (preferred)
- Experience with Python (preferred)
- Familiarity with secure file handling at scale, including permissions checks, malware scanning, and content validation (preferred)
- Experience with content migration or format conversion between products (preferred)
