Okta Identity Governance is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Test to own quality for the Identity Governance and Administration product, which handles critical enterprise workflows including access requests, approvals, entitlement enforcement, and audit compliance. This role is central to Okta's new product bookings and runs in some of the world's largest enterprises, where a single tenant may carry hundreds of thousands of identities across thousands of applications.
As a Senior SDET, you will own quality for medium-sized features end-to-end from design review through production, and co-own larger features. You'll transform test strategy into executable test plans, build comprehensive automation across API, integration, end-to-end, and UI layers, and establish deterministic release gates in continuous integration. Your work will ensure that enterprise-scale operations—long-running certification campaigns, tenants with millions of entitlements, dozens of third-party connectors, and audit records—function flawlessly.
Key responsibilities include: reviewing requirements and design specs to write test plans; participating in architecture and design reviews early to shape testability; automating at every layer and wiring tests into CI; building scale, performance, and reliability tests for large-tenant operations; validating data integrity across systems; reviewing application code and building frameworks that accelerate future coverage; mentoring teammates on reliability, performance, and security; troubleshooting complex cross-service issues; eliminating test debt and flaky tests; scoping quality work with engineering management; partnering with product, design, and SRE teams; responding to production issues during on-call rotation; and advocating for customers by working with field teams and ensuring critical flows never break.
You will work alongside developers as an engineer, not a gatekeeper—reviewing designs and code, building tools that make coverage efficient, and turning every escaped defect into automation that prevents recurrence.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years in software engineering in test or quality engineering, ideally for enterprise SaaS products
- 5+ years building test automation in Java; Python or TypeScript a plus
- Hands-on experience with API automation (REST, gRPC) and UI automation (Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent)
- Experience with performance and load testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, Locust, or equivalent)
- Experience with continuous integration (CircleCI or equivalent), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and a major cloud platform such as AWS
- Experience testing distributed, multi-tenant systems at scale, including asynchronous and event-driven workflows
- Comfort using logs and monitoring (Splunk or equivalent) to debug failures in test and production
- Ability to write and review designs and code with other engineers, and deliver well-designed, high-quality code on time
- Track record of owning medium-sized features end-to-end and troubleshooting complex issues with little guidance
- Strong test planning skills and track record of working with product, design, and operations partners
EXTRA CREDIT:
- Experience in Identity Governance and Administration (Okta, SailPoint, Saviynt, One Identity, Oracle, or in-house)
- Broader identity and access management experience (SSO, SCIM provisioning, directory integration)
- Integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce, Active Directory, or LDAP
- Testing in compliance contexts (SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP) including audit evidence validation
- Using AI tools or agents to speed up test creation, triage, or maintenance
