Senior Software Engineer II (Ruby on Rails)

Seismic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to join the Learning Engineering team, responsible for building and scaling AI-powered learning, coaching, and enablement products. You will design, build, and modernize cloud-native applications that power Seismic's learning platform, working on complex technical challenges in system design, software architecture, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure. Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining scalable, resilient, high-performance applications and services; leading the design and implementation of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native architectures; modernizing monolithic applications into microservices; building AI-powered product capabilities; collaborating with product managers, architects, and engineers; driving technical design discussions and architectural decisions; implementing CI/CD pipelines and observability practices; leveraging Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies; troubleshooting production issues; participating in code reviews and mentoring; and evaluating emerging technologies and AI-assisted development tools. Required qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; 8+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale SaaS or cloud-native applications; strong proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails or equivalent backend technologies (C#, Java, Go, Python); experience building and maintaining Rails applications including APIs, background processing, and scalable services; deep expertise in system design and software architecture including microservices and distributed systems; proven experience designing highly scalable, resilient systems; strong experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP; hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerization; strong understanding of DevOps practices including CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code; experience with AI-assisted development tools; expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases; and excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills in globally distributed teams. Preferred qualifications include strong hands-on experience with Ruby ecosystem (Rails, Sidekiq, RSpec, Redis, PostgreSQL); experience migrating monolithic applications to microservices; experience building AI-enabled products; experience with enterprise SaaS platforms at scale; and exposure to modern frontend frameworks like React or Vue.js.
