Salary: USD 130,000 - 170,000 / annual
Rocket Lab is an end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems for missions ranging from interplanetary exploration to national security and defense. The Space Systems team has enabled over 1,700 missions and builds everything from complete spacecraft and precision payloads to components like solar panels, flight software, star trackers, optical systems, and radios.
The Senior Software Engineer II – Customer Solutions role is based in Littleton, CO and serves as a key technical interface between Rocket Lab's space software customers and internal engineering and management teams. This position supports the Business Development organization with deliverables for internal leadership, the board of directors, and investors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical support to customers in collaboration with the engineering team
- Developing interactive product demonstrations of Rocket Lab's space software products
- Generating proposals for new business opportunities with business development and engineering teams
- Leading efforts to attract new business to established products
- Monitoring business performance, forecasting demand, and presenting to Finance and Executive teams
- Collaborating with Communications and Business Development on marketing materials
- Improving and standardizing customer-facing product technical documentation
- Staying current on satellite competitive landscape, customer demand trends, and market dynamics to support forecasting, pricing, new product development, and the Space Systems roadmap
- Monitoring product costs to inform pricing decisions and design/process trades
- Traveling to conferences and customer locations to lead component business development activities
This role blends technical depth with business acumen, requiring someone who can translate complex engineering concepts for diverse audiences and drive commercial success for space software products.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical discipline
- 8+ years of professional experience in an engineering role within the aerospace industry
- US citizenship required due to program requirements (ITAR compliance)
NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles operating in harsh environments such as satellites
- Experience with satellite operations
- Proficiency in C++, Python, or similar programming languages
- Highly organized with strong problem-solving and attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Ability to communicate complex issues clearly to customers, staff, and executives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sales management experience and familiarity with sales, marketing, public relations, finance, and operations
- Extensive awareness of current commercial and government satellite programs
- Experience working with dynamic, geographically dispersed teams on fast-paced projects
- Ownership mindset and ability to manage challenging situations
- Experience with customer relationship management software
- Master's degree in aerospace engineering or related field (electrical, mechanical, computer science, etc.)
