Kard is building commerce media infrastructure connecting financial institutions, platforms, and merchants through data and merchant-funded rewards. The Customer Experience (CX) engineering team owns the systems powering Kard's end-to-end rewards experience: transaction matching, offer ingestion and delivery (including partner integrations like Rewards Network and SEATED), cell-based routing architecture, and the Support API. As a Senior Software Engineer II on the CX team, you will design and build scalable services that ingest, match, and settle transactions at scale. You'll operate at the center of the rewards pipeline, raising the team's bar on operational readiness, testing, and documentation. This role reports into the CX engineering team with a strong focus on issuer and partner-facing systems, working alongside Support, Design, and Product through Kard's Shape Up-based pitch cycle. Key responsibilities include: architecting and building scalable services across transaction matching, the cellar pipeline, and offer ingestion (new work defaults to Go and Postgres; existing services use TypeScript and MongoDB); owning features end-to-end through discovery, pitch writing, implementation, testing, and production rollout with written launch/rollback plans; actively participating in on-call, incident response, and IOC triage, driving root-cause fixes rather than patches; strengthening issuer/client-facing APIs and SDKs for reliability and self-service; leading by example with decisive technical calls and cross-functional collaboration; championing enhancements to tech stack, methodologies, and standards (authentication, rate limiting, deployment, observability, error handling, test coverage) with focus on resilience and quality; mentoring engineers and contributing to design/architecture discussions; and writing clear documentation and playbooks to distribute ownership. You'll drive pitches end-to-end, participate in on-call rotations, and help the team keep pace with fast-growing transaction volume and issuer surface area. REQUIREMENTS: - Expert programming skills in Go and/or TypeScript, with experience building scalable, secure, high-performance backend services - Solid experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures (SQS, Temporal), and both relational and document databases (Postgres and MongoDB) - Proficiency with AWS and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), including container technologies (Kubernetes/EKS) and serverless components (Lambda) - Experience working on transaction-processing, matching, or ingestion pipelines where correctness and idempotency matter - Comfort leading a technical project from discovery through production rollout, including writing clear specs and driving cross-team collaboration - Skilled with agentic software development—using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) to plan and implement complex features while owning design and quality - Commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture - U.S. core business hours availability and willingness to travel for company meetings BONUS: Experience with card-linked offers, loyalty, fintech, or transaction-intensive marketplaces; partner data ingestion (file-based or API) and production validation/monitoring; Cognito-based auth, API gateway enforcement (Envoy), or claims-based authorization; Databricks or similar data platforms and legacy stack migrations; open-source contributions; startup experience with remote-work productivity track record.
