Salary: USD 154,700 - 260,000 / annual
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations dependent on physical operations to harness IoT data for actionable insights. The company processes 25+ trillion data points annually from IoT sensors, cameras, and connected devices across thousands of organizations, growing from 4 trillion to 25+ trillion in four years. At ~$2B ARR growing 30%+ year-over-year, Samsara is digitally transforming industries representing over 40% of global GDP, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.
The fastest-growing divisions tackle the hardest, most ambiguous problems: building new products from scratch, applying AI and ML to massive real-world datasets, and shipping capabilities that change how organizations maintain equipment, manage fleets, and run operations. Most work is zero-to-one at billion-dollar scale.
In this role, you will take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them independently. You'll define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to customer-facing UI. You'll design and ship full-stack features end-to-end, working across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products solving real operational problems. You'll partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes. You'll build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows that put intelligence into operators' hands. You'll raise the bar for engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and by setting standards for quality, velocity, and craft. You'll champion and embed Samsara's cultural principles as the company scales globally.
The role offers autonomy to shape scope around your strengths and interests. Leveling is flexible: the company is hiring from Senior through Staff+, across platform and product. You'll have rare closeness to end users, participating in customer interviews and collaborating with product and customer success teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale
- Strong full-stack fundamentals; comfortable working across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile) to ship complete products
- Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout, including managing ambiguity, driving alignment, and delivering measurable impact
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products; you don't need to train models, but know how to turn AI capabilities into products customers love
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Track record of building zero-to-one products, systems left in meaningfully better places, or hard problems refused to stay unsolved
IDEAL CANDIDATE ALSO HAS:
- Experience shipping AI-powered features in production (LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI)
- Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.) to multiply output and accelerate delivery
- Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections) or strong interest in learning the domain
- Proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture, standards, and best practices beyond a single team
- Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive outside day job scope
