Carta is a connected platform and AI-native ecosystem for private capital, serving 55,000 companies and 1.8M+ equity holders across 160+ countries. The company provides software, services, and legal infrastructure for founders managing equity, fund managers running administration and reporting, and legal teams closing transactions. As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will lead technically complex projects and serve as a technical multiplier for your team. You'll drive implementation of complex technical projects from concept to production while maintaining high standards for performance and reliability. You'll dig deep into the architecture to identify opportunities to simplify code and infrastructure, prioritizing changes with measurable business impact. You'll leverage modern AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate your workflow and improve code quality, spending more time on high-level logic and unconventional problems. You'll act as a mentor and coach, raising the technical bar for peers through diligent code reviews and architectural guidance. You'll partner with product and design teams to ensure building the right solution for users, not just following specifications. The role offers exposure to high-impact domains including Carta Law, which builds foundational legal and compliance infrastructure for private capital. As part of a lean, London-based team, you'll shape how legal, operations, and finance teams work together. You'll work with core technologies including Python, Django, React, PostgreSQL, and Kafka, with additional exposure to Java, gRPC, and AWS. You can break down complex user stories into actionable tasks and execute with minimal guidance. You understand the "why" behind your code and can articulate technical trade-offs to stakeholders. The role requires 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
