Carta is a connected platform and AI-native ecosystem for private capital, serving 55,000 companies and 1.8M+ equity holders across 160+ countries. The company provides software, services, and legal infrastructure for founders managing equity, fund managers running administration and reporting, and legal teams closing transactions. As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will lead technically complex projects and serve as a technical multiplier for your team. You'll drive the execution of complex technical projects from concept to production while maintaining high standards for performance and reliability. Your responsibilities include identifying opportunities to simplify code and infrastructure with measurable business impact, leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate workflows and improve code quality, and acting as a mentor and coach to raise the technical bar through diligent code reviews and architectural guidance. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with product and design teams to ensure solutions address user needs effectively. High-impact domains include Fund Operations (building the core engine for private capital workflows), Investor Reporting (enabling accurate performance data sharing), Risk & Compliance (scaling infrastructure for security and transparency), and CRM (building agentic workflows for deal teams and investor relations). The ideal candidate has 8+ years of professional software engineering experience and is proficient with Python, Django, React, PostgreSQL, and Kafka. You should be able to break down complex user stories into actionable tasks, execute with minimal guidance, and articulate technical trade-offs to stakeholders. Experience with Java, gRPC, and AWS is also valued. You're an owner and problem-solver energized by complex, ambiguous problems and motivated by building products that expand access to ownership.
