Salary: USD 148,000 - 222,000 / annual
Klaviyo is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. IAM controls how people, services, integrations, and AI agents access the Klaviyo platform. You will build authentication and authorization systems for users, agents, and machines, solving hard identity problems that affect nearly every part of the product.
In this role, you will lead complex projects from design through launch and long-term operation while staying hands-on with the software. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead business-critical projects across several components, breaking ambiguous problems into clear work that multiple engineers can deliver together.
- Build secure, reliable services for authentication, authorization, delegation, auditing, and revocation.
- Own customer impact, reliability, and technical quality of your work in production.
- Improve the architecture of your area as scale, security, and product needs change.
- Define and maintain SLOs for the systems you own.
- Partner with Security, Product, Platform, and product engineering teams.
- Create reusable patterns that make IAM easier and safer for other teams to adopt.
- Mentor engineers and help project contributors succeed.
- Apply new engineering and AI tools responsibly and share learnings with the team.
- Take on important unowned work that helps the team move faster.
You will work on a team that values diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The role may require up to 10% travel for onboarding, client work, team meetings, and industry events.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience building and operating production software
- Hands-on experience developing production services in Go or Python
- Experience with authentication, authorization, identity, or related security systems
- Experience building networking systems, API gateways, APIs, or SDKs
- Led complex projects spanning multiple engineers and several months
- Take end-to-end ownership and stay with work after launch
- Clear communication, cross-team collaboration, and practical technical decision-making
- Mentor other engineers and raise quality bar through feedback and example
- Balance long-term improvements with steady customer delivery
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with auth or policy systems
- Experience building secure platforms used by other engineering teams
- Experience with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, React, or Django
- Experience with enterprise security, auditability, data residency, or compliance needs
