Salary: USD 142,000 - 178,000 / annual
Mammoth Biosciences, a CRISPR gene-editing biotech company founded by Nobel laureate Jennifer Doudna, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Computational team. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and biology, supporting the company's therapeutic programs from discovery through IND-enabling studies.
You will own the design and implementation of relational data models and pipelines that directly drive scientific decisions. Key responsibilities include: designing data warehouse schemas and ETL pipelines that ingest assay results and make them queryable for research teams; building and maintaining internal web applications (React-based) that scientists use to launch analyses and access experimental data; managing cloud infrastructure (AWS) and containerized deployments; collaborating with wet-lab scientists to understand their analytical needs and translate them into robust systems; and documenting systems and decisions to ensure reproducibility and engineering standards.
The role requires strong software engineering fundamentals: 7+ years of professional experience (5 with Master's, 3 with PhD), proficiency in Python, hands-on AWS (S3, Batch, RDS, EC2, Lambda), Docker, SQL, and relational database design. You should have experience with web development (ReactJS, HTML, CSS), git-based workflows, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD. Familiarity with AI coding tools is expected. Ideally, you have prior experience working with scientists, particularly in genomics or NGS data analysis.
Preferred qualifications include: workflow orchestration (Prefect, Nextflow, Airflow, CWL), LIMS/ELN modeling (especially Benchling), data pipeline and ETL systems ownership, analytics engineering (dbt), data warehouse design, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and a background or genuine interest in the underlying biology. The role requires onsite presence 2x/week at the Brisbane headquarters.
