Spring Health is a global mental health platform on a mission to eliminate barriers to mental health care. The company operates an AI-native platform delivering personalized support through self-guided tools, coaching, therapy, medication management, and specialty care, reaching over 170 million people worldwide through employers, health plans, and partners. You will join the Care Innovation team as a Senior Software Engineer in a high-visibility, high-impact role. This position offers significant autonomy to drive technical decisions and influence product development direction. You'll collaborate closely with R&D leadership on high-priority projects that advance the company's mental healthcare transformation mission. Key responsibilities include writing and optimizing production-ready code while maintaining high quality standards; leading technical design reviews and producing primary technical designs for complex problems; leveraging AI tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor) to support design exploration, accelerate delivery, and augment code reviews while critically evaluating outputs; identifying repeatable tasks for AI acceleration and guiding junior engineers on responsible AI usage; designing and building scalable backend services in Ruby on Rails, owning provider-facing APIs across profile, onboarding, and offboarding lifecycles; leading multi-person, multi-sprint projects with cross-stakeholder alignment; mentoring earlier-career engineers through code reviews, pairing, and coaching; and owning operational excellence through logging, alerting, monitoring, incident investigation, and on-call participation. Success in this role means delivering clean, efficient, scalable code that serves as a team model; leading high-impact projects from ideation to delivery with significant hands-on contributions; actively using AI to accelerate work while guiding teammates responsibly; designing reliable architectures supporting future growth; consistently shipping high-quality projects on time; elevating team standards through strong contributions and proactive tech debt identification; and fostering a culture of learning and accountability. You bring 5+ years of professional software development experience with backend focus; strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Python, or equivalent object-oriented languages; experience leading technical designs and multi-person engineering projects end-to-end; strong SQL skills and PostgreSQL familiarity; and active use of AI coding tools with prompt iteration for high-quality outputs. The role is hybrid based in Seattle (2–3 days/week at 255 King St), requiring Seattle metro residency or independent relocation within 90 days. Occasional travel for team on-sites is expected.
