Salary: USD 196,000 - 220,000 / annual
Discord is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Growth team, responsible for how new users discover, understand, and get started with the platform. This is a full-stack role spanning user acquisition and activation systems.
Key responsibilities include building and optimizing user-facing experiences that improve discovery and onboarding; developing scalable backend systems serving dynamic, high-performance content at scale; working across the full stack (TypeScript/React frontend, Python backend); designing and running A/B experiments to measure impact on user acquisition and activation; partnering with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to identify high-impact growth opportunities; maintaining performance and reliability standards for user-facing properties; and writing clean, maintainable code.
Required qualifications: at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience; strong expertise in TypeScript and React with a track record of delivering high-performance frontend experiences; practical experience with Python and backend frameworks such as Flask; experience designing and running A/B tests with a data-driven decision-making mindset; comfort working across the full stack and taking end-to-end ownership of projects; and strong engineering judgment around shipping decisions.
Bonus qualifications include prior experience on growth-focused engineering teams working on activation, onboarding, or acquisition; experience building SEO infrastructure or interest in how LLMs and search engines index and surface web content; and mobile development experience.
This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager for Growth and offers the opportunity to directly influence how Discord grows at scale. The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
