The Growth Team sits at the heart of Airwallex's mission, focusing on user acquisition and strategic market expansion through data-driven experimentation and rapid iteration. This team designs scalable architectures for high-traffic pages, builds A/B testing frameworks, and integrates global marketing platforms to drive customer acquisition and retention worldwide. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Growth team, you will architect, develop, and maintain scalable microservices and backend systems powering growth initiatives. You'll enable experimentation and data-driven decision-making by collaborating with data scientists, product managers, and cross-functional teams to design data pipelines, analytics platforms, and event-driven architectures. Key responsibilities include: architecting and maintaining microservices in Java/Kotlin with high-traffic, high-availability requirements; implementing best practices for service-to-service communication, orchestration, and fault tolerance; collaborating with product and data teams to ensure growth data is accurate and accessible; translating business requirements into scalable backend solutions; participating in architectural and code reviews; developing services supporting rapid A/B testing, feature toggles, and real-time monitoring; and integrating secure coding practices to protect user data and ensure regulatory compliance. You bring 5+ years of modern engineering experience with strong computer science fundamentals, deep expertise in distributed systems (high throughput, low latency, high availability), and cloud experience with GCP or AWS. You're proficient in Java/Kotlin, familiar with Spring/Spring Boot, and experienced with observability tools like Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus. Domain-driven design and event-driven architectures are core to your skillset. Preferred experience includes GTM operations, data warehousing, customer segmentation, and building AI/LLM-powered products. You're a technically proficient, empathetic problem-solver who is data-driven, collaborative, and self-motivated with strong ownership mentality. You adapt quickly to new technologies, prioritize effectively, and demonstrate proactive leadership.
