Neo4j is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the GraphAware Hume team, a graph-powered analytics platform used by law enforcement and analysts to protect communities through advanced data insights.
You will shape the core intelligence of GraphAware Hume, working on backend systems that power mission-critical analytics. Your responsibilities include building intuitive APIs for complex data interaction, designing secure and scalable access control systems for sensitive environments, orchestrating workflows to automate graph analytics and real-time insights, optimizing application performance, and contributing to architectural decisions alongside a senior engineering team.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of backend systems experience with proven expertise in large-scale, complex applications. You must be fluent in Java with deep knowledge of modern software engineering principles including Clean Architecture, Domain-Driven Design, and Test-Driven Development. Experience with Spring or similar frameworks is essential, particularly for building secure, modular, scalable APIs. You should have hands-on experience designing data models across relational (PostgreSQL) and graph-based systems (Neo4j or similar), and be comfortable with modern CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and automated deployment workflows.
A strong security mindset is critical—you'll need practical knowledge of secure software design and common vulnerabilities (OWASP). You should be comfortable collaborating in remote-first teams with asynchronous communication practices.
Bonus skills include graph technologies (Cypher, Neo4j, knowledge graphs), event-driven architectures (Kafka), distributed systems, cloud-native development, observability, performance tuning, and experience integrating LLMs or AI systems.
The team is distributed across Europe with a focus on hiring in the UK, Czechia, or Italy. You'll have true autonomy over your work from ideation to deployment, contribute to product direction, and grow in a non-micromanaged, excellence-driven environment.
