Workato is building enterprise infrastructure for the agentic era, positioning itself as a leader in Enterprise MCP (Model Context Protocol) and iPaaS. The company serves 50% of the Fortune 500 with a cloud-native platform that connects applications, data sources, and processes to power real-time orchestration at scale.
You will join the Gateways & Enterprise AI Infrastructure team as a Senior Software Engineer, responsible for designing and developing the MCP Gateway and AI Gateway—production services that mediate between applications, AI agents, and LLM providers. This is infrastructure-layer work, not application development.
Key responsibilities include:
**Core Infrastructure Development**: Design and build the MCP Gateway and AI Gateway, handling protocol-level work including MCP server/client implementations, request routing, streaming, tool-call proxying, authentication/authorization, and tenant isolation.
**High-Performance Network Services**: Build high-throughput, low-latency services working close to the wire with TCP, TLS, HTTP/1.1 and HTTP/2, JSON streaming, connection pooling, and backpressure management. You'll own latency profiling and optimization.
**Data Layer Ownership**: Deep PostgreSQL expertise—schema design, indexing strategies, query planning, transactions, isolation levels, and connection management. You'll read EXPLAIN ANALYZE output and optimize queries.
**Technology Stack**: Primary languages are Go and/or Ruby. You'll work with modern cloud infrastructure, observability tools, and enterprise-grade security patterns.
This role is ideal for a systems-minded engineer who understands both low-level networking and AI protocol layers, and who has shipped production infrastructure at scale. You'll have significant technical ownership and the opportunity to shape how enterprises integrate AI into their operations.
