Scopely is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the WWE Champions backend team. WWE Champions is a top-downloaded RPG puzzle match game featuring WWE superstars, with millions of engaged players across mobile and PC platforms. In this role, you will design, build, and evolve backend systems powering core gameplay and live-service operations at scale. You'll take ownership of live-ops excellence through incident management and reliability improvements, enabling cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality player experiences. Key responsibilities include: • Actively support live-ops initiatives and game design releases, providing comprehensive backend support pre- and post-launch • Ensure seamless coordination with design teams throughout game update and content release lifecycles • Lead incident management, reliability hardening, and operational readiness for production systems • Drive the technical roadmap for backend initiatives, ensuring scalable, high-performance architecture for live mobile games • Lead design and delivery of high-impact features by bridging server-side logic with game client requirements • Act as a technical multiplier by unblocking cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA, Analytics) and providing mentorship • Contribute to hands-on feature development, ensuring code quality and maintainability across client and server codebases • Identify and mitigate technical debt and operational bottlenecks to improve team velocity Required qualifications: 6+ years professional software development in gaming or large-scale live-service applications; deep backend engineering expertise with high-level server-side languages and frameworks; experience collaborating with game client engineers (Unity/C#); proven track record designing scalable systems and managing live-service operations; familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent) and modern CI/CD practices; experience with content pipelines and performance optimization. You should have experience building player-facing features (progression, social, live events, monetization), strong understanding of backend-to-Unity client integration, proven ability to lead technical planning in complex cross-functional environments, and experience managing technical roadmaps balancing feature delivery with system health. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience required. Strong communication, leadership, and mentorship skills essential.
