Scribd is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack) to shape the core reading experience for 10M+ daily users. You'll work on Scribd's primary document reading platform, directly impacting how millions explore and learn from a corpus of 300,000+ documents. In this role, you will help migrate frontend surfaces from a Ruby-on-Rails monolith to a modern microfrontend architecture powered by Next.js, while building new services in Node, Python, and Go. You'll experiment at the intersection of product and AI, partnering closely with Product, Design, and AI/ML teams to rapidly prototype and launch features that elevate engagement and comprehension. Key responsibilities include creating new GraphQL APIs, collaborating with Data/ML and Content Pipeline teams on document ingestion infrastructure, contributing to the shared design system, and improving frontend infrastructure. You'll also work on building new creative experiences from 0→1, helping develop innovative tools that empower users to synthesize research and produce study guides, presentations, and documents enhanced by generative AI. Additionally, you'll improve SEO and answer engine optimization in collaboration with the SEO PM. Required experience includes 6+ years of full-stack development with proven production systems using React, Next.js, or Ruby on Rails. You should be familiar with maintaining services in cloud environments, monitoring service health, and responding to incidents. A strong understanding of performance, accessibility, and SEO is essential. You thrive in cross-functional environments, take pride in code quality and maintainability, and are committed to writing clean, well-documented, extensible code. Scribd operates under a "Scribd Flex" model balancing individual flexibility with meaningful in-person collaboration. Occasional in-person attendance is required for all employees. The company values GRIT: setting and achieving Goals, delivering Results, contributing Innovative ideas, and strengthening the Team through collaboration.
