Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy-now-pay-later solutions without hidden fees or compounding interest. The International Accelerator Engineering team is expanding and seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a full-stack team based in Europe (same time zone) with Silicon Valley culture.
You will own quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems while ensuring team support throughout delivery. You'll collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during the product development lifecycle—participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs.
Key responsibilities include: proactively identifying and solving project, process, technology, and business issues; supporting team operations and availability through metrics creation, monitoring, and on-call efforts; fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards; and developing talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
You'll work on products serving over 20 million consumers, including the Affirm App and direct-to-consumer offerings across Canada, the UK, and future international markets. The role rewards curiosity, ownership, context-switching ability, and a builder's mindset. You'll ship code to production for millions, measure impact rigorously, and leverage AI to increase daily productivity.
Required: 4+ years as a software engineer with experience designing and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. You must have shipped web apps using declarative UI frameworks (React or Vue), efficiently use AI for high-quality product delivery, and demonstrate strong ownership of growth through feedback-seeking. You'll define technical plans for significant features with elegant, simple, extensible designs, write high-quality code, make large-scale codebase changes safely, and communicate effectively with global teams.
