Base is rebuilding America's power grid by deploying a distributed battery network that transforms today's centralized grid into a resilient, abundant system. We're seeking a senior frontend engineer to lead development of the customer experience—the digital interfaces that help homeowners understand energy usage, manage outages, and track battery performance.
In this role, you will be the technical anchor for Base's customer-facing applications. You'll lead frontend development across web and mobile platforms, set architecture and technical direction for the entire frontend organization, and partner closely with product and design to shape the roadmap. You'll own major product surfaces end-to-end, from concept through production and iteration, including systems you architect from scratch. You'll work closely with backend engineers to design APIs and data models that support complex energy systems, translate those systems into clear and intuitive user experiences, and establish frontend engineering standards that improve developer experience across the stack—including build tooling, testing, and component architecture.
You'll mentor engineers, raise the bar for frontend craft across the team, and act as a technical lead on cross-team initiatives. You'll use analytics and experimentation to continuously improve the member experience. This is a high-impact role on a small team responsible for the digital front door of Base, where you'll help ship fast, reliable software that millions of households depend on.
Base operates in-person in Austin. The company is a venture-backed startup in the climate tech / distributed energy space, rebuilding critical infrastructure. Priorities shift quickly, and your role may expand based on business needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience building production frontend or full-stack software
- Deep expertise in TypeScript and modern web frameworks (React, Next.js, or similar)
- Strong experience designing frontend architecture for complex web applications, including systems used by other engineers or teams
- Track record of owning products or platforms from concept through launch and iteration, including at least one system you architected from scratch
- Comfort working across the stack and collaborating closely with backend engineers on APIs and data models
- Strong product judgment and ability to translate complex systems into simple user experiences
- Experience using product analytics, experimentation, and data to guide decisions
- Real technical depth in hard frontend problems (performance, state management, cross-platform architecture, design systems, etc.)
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond your own team
- First principles thinking, grit, and bias toward shipping
