Peregrine Technologies is an AI-enabled platform backed by leading Silicon Valley investors that helps public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions address societal challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy. The platform transforms siloed and disconnected data into operational intelligence, surfacing mission-critical information to enable better, faster decisions. Peregrine currently supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people. The Foundations team consists of detail-oriented engineers driving innovation and enhancing performance through technical excellence. This team owns the performance and reliability of key infrastructure pieces and tackles hard technical problems that create new platform capabilities. In this role, you will independently own well-scoped, meaningful projects that improve the reliability and performance of Peregrine's data platform—the systems that ingest, process, and enrich large volumes of customer data from diverse sources at high scale and low latency. You'll work within datastores, orchestrated data pipelines, and the connection, authorization, and notification layers that keep the entire system efficient and secure, extending existing architectural patterns and proposing new ones where needed. Recent representative work at this level includes: contributing to a core datastore's storage format rewrite and safe rollout across environments; upgrading major framework versions in heavily used services without regressions; improving database connection-pooling to reduce outage risk; building new authorization system components; reducing data-processing backlog latency from hours to under a second; scaling and tuning search infrastructure; and participating in incident response and root-causing production issues. The technical stack includes Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka for the backend; React, Redux, and Mapbox for the frontend; PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for data stores; and AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes for infrastructure. You will take full responsibility for features you own, collaborate closely with other engineers and the deployment team, and iterate directly with users to solve their problems. The role values ownership, collaboration, humility, empathy, perseverance, and creativity.
