Peregrine Technologies is an AI-enabled platform backed by leading Silicon Valley investors that helps public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions turn siloed data into operational intelligence. The company currently supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people. The Foundations team owns the performance and reliability of key infrastructure pieces and tackles hard technical problems that create new platform capabilities. As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will independently own well-scoped, meaningful projects that improve the reliability and performance of Peregrine's data platform—the systems that ingest, process, and enrich large volumes of customer data from diverse sources at high scale and low latency. You'll work within datastores, orchestrated data pipelines, and the connection, authorization, and notification layers that keep the system efficient and secure. Recent representative work includes rewriting core datastore storage formats, upgrading major framework versions in heavily used services, improving database connection-pooling, building authorization system components, reducing data-processing latency from hours to under a second, scaling search infrastructure, and participating in incident response. The technical stack includes Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka on the backend; React, Redux, and Mapbox on the frontend; PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for data stores; and AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes for infrastructure. You should have 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise in distributed systems or data-intensive services. You'll take projects from design through production rollout, write robust and well-tested code, navigate large established codebases, and participate in incident response. The role requires a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience, and you must be located in the San Francisco or New York area and open to working in office.
