Salary: USD 184,000 - 208,000 / annual

Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation provider founded in 2021, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the flight software team. You will design, develop, integrate, and test the embedded software and firmware that runs on orbiting satellites, serving as an integral member of the team defining Muon's satellite bus platform. Key responsibilities include: - Translate concepts and requirements into design and working implementations, supporting through on-orbit operations - Design, bring up, and support the embedded software environment running on ARM Cortex-M CPUs in satellite flight systems and peripherals - Evaluate and select technologies for the software foundation - Write application, platform, and driver functionality in the flight software environment - Integrate compute and peripheral subsystems in both software and hardware - Collaborate with hardware team members on design and bring-up of Muon hardware - Work with software team members to set flight software architecture, select infrastructure and tools, and communicate with cloud backends - Develop software and hardware-in-the-loop test strategies Required qualifications: - B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field - 8+ years of software engineering experience in a team environment - Strong C/C++ programming with practical familiarity of other languages - Experience integrating and controlling external hardware devices - Ability to read and understand hardware datasheets - Excellent communication and presentation skills Nice-to-have skills include knowledge of industry-standard data formats (ProtoBuf, YAML, JSON), embedded systems fundamentals (resource-efficient design, low-level drivers, RTOS frameworks), Linux development experience, embedded Linux, FPGA, hardware design, RF communication systems, cloud/server infrastructure, and end-to-end product development experience. Position based in San Jose, CA office. ITAR/EAR compliance required; applicant must be a U.S. person or have appropriate authorization.
