As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Fleet Telemetry & Control, you will design, implement, and test distributed energy resource controls and telemetry software on customer hardware at sites worldwide. You'll work on bare-metal or hardware-level virtualization platforms, serving as an advanced technical leader in network programming and state management. Engineering teams will look to you for best practices in interfacing with on-premises grid assets.
Key responsibilities include fostering a culture of well-designed systems and test-driven software; mentoring junior and career-level engineers in fleet telemetry and control development; collaborating with energy solutions providers on proprietary hardware and on-premises software stacks; designing and implementing software for supervisory distributed energy resource control with heterogeneous OEM hardware and sensor/actuator networks; developing high-performance, production-grade applications optimized for resource- and bandwidth-constrained environments; providing specifications for over-the-air updates and remote access solutions; and implementing security best practices for critical infrastructure and cyber-physical systems.
Minimum qualifications include 5+ years of bare-metal application development; technical leadership and commitment to high-quality, timely software delivery; strong programming skills in systems languages (C/C++, Rust, Go); proficiency with scripting languages (Shell, Python); advanced knowledge of OSI networking layers; hands-on experience with lightweight databases (SQLite, LevelDB); familiarity with SCADA systems, industrial automation, PLCs, and finite state machines; and a hardened security mindset with experience in PKI, encryption, cryptography, and data privacy.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM field; advanced Rust programming knowledge; proficiency with electric power systems and bulk electricity grid hardware; comfort building software on low-powered CPU environments; knowledge of model-predictive control and optimal control; deep knowledge of Modbus TCP and industrial SCADA protocols (DNP3, IEC 60870, IEC 61850); experience building resilient applications on unreliable/mesh networks; and experience with battery energy storage technologies from major manufacturers.
