Flock is an AI-first insurance technology company transforming fleet and connected vehicle insurance through real-time, data-driven risk assessment and pricing. The company has raised over £50M and insures hundreds of fleets including Amazon, DPD, Uber, and Bolt across the UK, with ambitions to become the leading insurance platform for connected and autonomous vehicles.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Expansion Team, you will own end-to-end delivery of features that bring new fleets, brokers, and sectors onto the Flock platform. You'll work across a full-stack role with particular emphasis on backend architecture, event-driven systems, and internal product configuration interfaces.
Key responsibilities include:
**Backend & Microservices**: Design and evolve TypeScript services in a monorepo organized around CQRS and Hexagonal architecture. Build asynchronous, event-driven systems using AWS Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, and API Gateway. You'll work across complex domains including pricing, underwriting, brokers, customers, vehicles, invoicing, and finance.
**Frontend**: Develop and extend the internal Product Config UI in React (TypeScript), transforming complex schema-driven configuration into intuitive interfaces for underwriters and product managers to safely define new products and onboard customers.
**Cloud Infrastructure & Observability**: Leverage AWS services to build scalable, event-driven systems with careful attention to eventual consistency, idempotency, retries, and graceful failure. Implement monitoring and observability practices.
**AI-Driven Development**: Use AI coding tools and agents daily throughout the development lifecycle—from design exploration to testing—while maintaining ownership of code quality.
You'll partner closely with underwriters, pricing engineers, and product managers, acting as a bridge between Flock's underwriting engine and broker/fleet customers. Your work directly impacts how Flock wins new business and expands into new sectors.
Essential qualifications: Expert TypeScript proficiency in large monorepos; expert-level experience designing and operating event-driven AWS systems; proven hands-on experience with CQRS, event sourcing, and Hexagonal/Clean Architecture; exposure to modern frontend frameworks like React; day-to-day experience with AI coding tools.
Preferred: React experience building internal UIs; experience modeling complex business domains with evolving rules; CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions); monitoring tools like DataDog; background in insurance, fintech, or regulated transactional domains.
