Coder is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Enterprise Experience team to build backend systems that enable large organizations to run Coder reliably in production. You'll design and implement features end-to-end, from technical design through production rollout, focusing on scalability, reliability, and operational excellence in regulated and air-gapped environments.
Key responsibilities include designing backend architecture changes to support long-term scalability goals, investigating and resolving production bottlenecks (database access patterns, concurrency handling), improving database migration safety and upgrade reliability, and owning the backend side of operator-facing issues. You'll participate in code reviews, RFC-style design discussions, and on-call rotations for services you own, while documenting design and operational tradeoffs.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant production Go expertise, deep understanding of Go's concurrency model (goroutines, channels, sync package, race condition debugging), and hands-on experience designing and operating relational databases in production (schema design, migrations, transactions). Strong communication skills, exceptional debugging abilities, and self-motivation are essential.
Bonus experience includes infrastructure engineering, building/operating distributed systems at scale, and curiosity about developer tooling. The tech stack includes Go, Postgres, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC, Prometheus, Grafana, and GitHub Actions. Coder is a Series B agentic AI platform enabling enterprises to securely run human and AI-driven development workflows in consistent, governed environments. The interview process typically takes 2-4 weeks and includes conversations with individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders.
