Amplitude is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its new Enterprise Engineering team. This role combines deep technical ownership with direct customer impact, sitting at the intersection of product engineering and customer success. You'll serve as the engineering point of contact for key enterprise customers, owning their technical success across the entire customer journey. Unlike forward-deployed engineering focused on implementation, Enterprise Engineering maintains accountability through resolution of complex, production-level issues. Key responsibilities include: - Diagnosing and resolving technical issues by reading code, analyzing production signals, and tracing behavior across the stack - Answering customer technical questions with clear explanations rather than forwarding threads - Designing and implementing product or platform features when that's the fastest path to solving customer problems - Acting as the engineering lead for urgent issues in key customer Slack channels - Representing engineering in customer office hours and recurring meetings - Identifying recurring patterns and improving tooling, documentation, observability, and APIs to prevent future issues - Helping define the operating model and culture of a new team You'll need strong software engineering fundamentals with meaningful depth in backend, distributed systems, infrastructure, data systems, or developer platforms. Excellent debugging instincts are essential—you can move from imprecise reports to reproducible problems and robust fixes. You're comfortable operating in production using logs, traces, metrics, and code to reason about system behavior. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic generalist with bias toward action without sacrificing quality. You know when to make a contained fix, when to invest in a broader solution, and when to escalate. You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, maintain composure in urgent situations, and have low ego with high ownership—you enjoy crossing team boundaries to get the right outcome. Success means enterprise customers feel one engineer owns their problems through completion, a meaningful share of issues are resolved without disrupting product roadmaps, you ship high-quality fixes across unfamiliar stack areas, and recurring pain becomes durable product improvement.
