Salary: USD 170,000 - 200,000 / annual
Metropolis Technologies is building AI systems to make the real world responsive, pioneering what they call the Recognition Economy. The company transforms everyday experiences—starting with parking—into seamless, intelligent interactions using computer vision and machine learning.
You'll join the Advanced Technologies team as a Senior Backend Engineer, designing and maintaining scalable backend systems that integrate cutting-edge hardware with advanced ML models to understand real-world object behavior. This is a core infrastructure role at the intersection of distributed systems, real-time data processing, and scalable cloud architecture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build robust, scalable backend services in Java and Scala supporting mission-critical operations
- Design and implement gRPC APIs for high-performance, real-time data transfer between services
- Optimize data storage and retrieval using Redis and MySQL with a focus on reliability and low-latency access
- Deploy and manage microservices on Kubernetes, optimizing for scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency
- Build event-driven architectures using Kafka for real-time data streaming and processing
- Partner with Hardware, ML, and Operations teams to ensure seamless ecosystem integration and provide appropriate tooling
- Analyze and address performance bottlenecks while maintaining system reliability and data integrity
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of backend development experience, preferably in platform or core services
- Proven expertise in Java and Scala
- Experience building gRPC APIs
- Strong database design and optimization skills (Redis, MySQL)
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Kafka
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills
Bonus: exposure to frontend frameworks like Next.js.
