Fanatics Markets is a real-money prediction and trading platform where users invest in real-world outcomes across sports, entertainment, politics, and beyond. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Distributed Systems team, you'll own the event-driven infrastructure powering real-money trading at scale.
You'll design and build distributed systems using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot, architecting for the traffic spikes and concurrency demands of a live trading platform. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing high-throughput event pipelines using Kafka, managing partition strategies, consumer group design, and exactly-once processing guarantees. You'll build and tune low-latency data layers across Postgres, Redis, and Redis PubSub, ensuring data integrity, cache coherence, and sub-millisecond read paths under peak load.
You'll implement resilience patterns across services—backpressure handling, circuit breaking, idempotent retry logic, and graceful degradation under failure conditions. You'll contribute to real-time user-facing systems, solving the fan-out problem for live market updates across tens of thousands of concurrent sessions. This role balances hands-on coding with architectural influence: you'll move fluidly between implementation and design, owning meaningful technical decisions and shaping platform scalability.
You'll partner with product and engineering leadership on build vs. buy decisions and long-term platform strategy. You'll also set and uphold engineering standards for observability, schema evolution, testing practices, and deployment patterns through code reviews, RFCs, and technical documentation.
